About Hoy Sun
Hoy Sun, also known as Taishan or Toishan, is city in southwestern part of Guangdong, China, also known as Canton. During gold rushes and the building of railways, many Catonese, especially Hoysunese immigrated to North America. This is why various dialects of Cantonese and Hoysunese are the ancestral languages for many seventh or even eighth generation Chinsese Canadians. You will find that, even in Regina, most of the senior Chinese immigrants speak Hoysunese.
Throughout Canadian history, we, the people of Hoysunese origins and our Canadian-born children have fought for our political and democratic rights, as well as for the integration into the Canadian life. We have helped make Canada the democratic and inclusive society that it is today.

The Association
The Hoy Sun Association is a national non-profit organization established in Canada in 1863, over 154 years ago. With thousands of members in associated chapters across the country, our Saskatchewan chapter was established in April 1997.
Our association’s mission is to promote the fellowship and wellbeing amongst the individuals & families from Hoy Sun; but we have also worked tirelessly as a liaison between Chinese communities and Canadian governments to help immigrants integrate into Canadian society. We encourage members of the Chinese community to fully participate as a citizen of this multicultural nation.
The Hoy Sun Association has worked with the Regina Chinese Freemason since 2010 and has consistantly raised over a hundred thousand dollars each year through fundraisers to support the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Asthma clinic, Pediatric Outpatient Unit, Children’s Ward & Emergency Department.
We do this because we believe that children are our future and therefore the bigget asset. We need them to be healthy to continue building our community. Aside from supporting children, we also honour our seniors by supporting the Evergreen senior home project, as well as by providing complimentary dinners for hundreds of seniors each Chinese New Year.
